After all the hype for todays massive El Clasico, the game never quite reached the heights that maybe we all hoped it would do. Not that Barcelona will mind, they came off 1-0 winners after supposed big game bottler Zlatlan Ibrahimovic came off the bench to blast a corking finish past Iker Casillas.
I’ve always disliked the concept of the “big game bottler”, obviously its easier to do it against lower league teams, but ultimately you aren’t going to perform in every huge match.
It was an eventful game anyway – Carles Puyol put in a Man of the Match performance, putting in brilliant last ditch tackles on at least three occasions, and both teams had a players sent off for two yellow card offences – Busquets for Barcelona after an innocuous handball (he’s no Henry) and Diarra for Real Madrid after flying full pelt into Xavi at the death.

The draw for the FA Cup Third Round was today, and Kettering Town (who play in the Blue Square Premier League or the fifth tear of English Football) who held Leeds United to a draw at home earlier in the day, could be rewarded, if they manage to beat Leeds at Elland Road, with a third round tie against Manchester United. Really is the stuff Cup Dreams are made of.
Imagine what that’ll be like for the Kettering players, running out at Old Trafford, against the likes of Giggs, Rooney, Owen and Carrick?
Its a fantastic story for the cup, even if Leeds win, as it reignites the rivalry between the two United’s that has fallen by the wayside this decade with Leeds fall from grace.
Plenty more besides, the rest of the cup draw is below.

I’ve been surfing around looking for bloggable El Clásico related material. I came across pillow fights disguised as boxing, black magic and French C.Ronaldo impersonators, but I couldn’t find anything relevant, that hasn’t already been covered by our Barcelona and Real Madrid Offsides anyway. Then I found this little video, which chronicles El Clásico’s biggest traitors – from a Barcelona perspective. With Spain and England turning tomorrow into a Super Derby Sunday, I thought it might be time to honor those brave men, who crossed cities, broke taboos, embraced change and explored the human side of the enemy – all in search of a bigger paycheck. Get a dog for loyalty, it’s time to honor the biggest traitors in football.

For some imitation is the highest form of flattery. For Hull City’s Jimmy Bullard it’s just another brilliant addition to his growing body of work. For under fire manager Phil Brown, it’ll also be a welcome reminder that his relationship with the team is still intact and his campy coaching outbursts not forgotten.

It’s El Clásico this Sunday, November 29th. You should know this already. If not, here are the details: It’s Barcelona vs Real Madrid at Camp Nou, arguably the greatest derby in club football. Kick off is 7pm local time, 1pm US eastern.
Real Madrid are currently one point ahead of Barcelona at the top of La Liga. Cristiano Ronaldo is back, but not 100% fit. Leo Messi and Zlatan Ibrhamimovic’s involvement is questionable. If you’re a fan of either team, this is obviously massive. If you’re a neutral, it’s still massively entertaining.
To whet your appetite for what shold be a cracker, above are supposedly the top 10 goals ever scored in El Clásico, featuring strikes from the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho. To be honest it’s really the top 10 goals scored in El Clásico since invention of YouTube. But still well worth a watch.

I like the benefit of the doubt. Often times I give it for absolutely no reason at all. I’d like to believe that Uruguay’s Oli is secretly part canine and the Swiss keeper was emitting a high-pitched shriek which only Oli could hear and be pained by. Or maybe, as some have suggested, it’s merely the worst halitosis known to man after a steady diet of garlic concoctions. These, however, are unlikely to be true. Unfortunately, we can only assume Uruguay’s Oli is the new Rivaldo.
Remember when that was a good thing?
It’s Thanksgiving Day here in the United States, a time to eat food and give thanks. (Unless you’re a turkey, in which case you do neither.)
About a week ago, I contacted all the Offside and World Cup Blog bloggers and asked them what football related thing they were thankful. Below you’ll find the collected responses.
Some are funny, some are heartfelt, many are both. If you read the whole list you’ll also learn a few things. Like who Tunisia’s new coach is, who made Lyon the team they are today, and what Corey’s latest nickname is.
Have a read, and please feel free to join in and share what you’re thankful for in the comments.
Doncaster Rovers are the new Barcelona.
We did it! That was probably in the minds of Fred Rutten and the PSV players on a tough exciting away match. It is absolutely official, we have broken our own club undefeated streak record, and with what kind of fashion as well. Sparta Rotterdam players were robbed off a day

The ironic thing about this game is, more or less what Ferrara said- unlike the Bordeaux disaster, we didn't play all that terribly, yet still lost 2-0. That doesn't change the fact that today was still, an utter disappointment. Losing
