Hiddink to Chelsea Players: Armani or Else!

By: Laurie | Comments 4 Comments

New Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has new rules for the Chelsea players: Wear your Armani suits, or face the consequences!
Hiddink feels that former gaffer Luis Felipe Scolari was far too lax with the Chelsea boys, so he’s imposed a new set of rules. My personal favorite? The club’s Armani suits must be [...]

This Week’s Special Moments, Brought to you by the UEFA Champions League

By: Laurie | Comments 15 Comments

“Oh, Frank. How could you go to the tabloids? You’ve taken our special moment in the shower and turned it into something…cheap and tawdry“.

“I am sorry, Cristiano, but you are not hot enough to swap shirts with me today. Lose the hair gel and check back with me on the return [...]

Weekend Quiz: Bad Boys, Part Deux

By: Laurie | Comments 25 Comments

I had so much fun rehashing scandals last week that I thought we’d do it again this week.
Name the bad boy. As I said last week:
These scandals/controversies could be recent or long ago. They could be on-pitch or off-. There may be one or many. They could be legal, moral, ethical — [...]

Raúl to Retire. And Then Play in MLS?

By: Daryl | Comments 11 Comments

That’s not a trick headline. Real Madrid living legend Raúl González has announced that he’ll probably retire at the end of the 2010/2011 season (which means he’ll finish this season then play two more).
He’s already the Real’s all-time top scorer, and will definitely be adding a few more goals to that tally before he’s done.
After [...]

Football v Basketball: The Continuing Debate

By: chris | Comments 15 Comments

So after Daryl posted the Becks v KG bit yesterday, these lads decided that such a response requires another test of sorts and immediately set out to do their part in quashing the squabble. With one holding skills from basketball and the other in footy, they freestyled continuously in front of a camera for 8 [...]

Beginning of the End for NHL?

By: Daryl | Comments 22 Comments

Sticking with our theme of American (well, North American anyway) sports stars playing soccer, have a look at Dominic Moore of the Toronto Maple Leafs here. Moore’s hockey stick was broken so he decided to briefly play a proper sport and use his feet.
And check it out: Moore’s two footed! Dribbles through nicely before laying [...]

FIFA 09 Has A Few Bugs To Fix

By: chris | Comments 8 Comments

If you’ve played video games within the last few years, you’ve probably been at least slightly impressed by their realism. However, while the technology is good it’s not quite without fault. So someone created a gag reel to tell FIFA, “hey, you’ve got work to do”.
And if you’ve ever considered offering your services to an [...]

Galatasaray Condemns Turkish Football to Eternity of Positive Stereotyping

By: Daryl | Comments 8 Comments

Is it racist/prejudiced when you ascribe certain attributes to entire cultures? Even if said attribute is a positive? I think it probably is.
But if Turkish people don’t want to be labeled as genetically pre-disposed to last-minute comebacks then maybe Turkish football teams should stop doing things like this:

Kevin Garnett Explodes the “If Only All American Athletes Played Soccer” Myth

By: Daryl | Comments 32 Comments

Above is a new three stripes commercial, featuring Galaxy/Milan (delete as applicable) midfield man David Beckham and Boston/Celtics (what? oh, that’s one team) power forward Kevin Garnett.
Here’s what I deduce from this video: Kevin Garnett isn’t great at soccer. He looks… clumsy. That’s no knock on Garnett, as he’s probably got a better first [...]

Dutch Fans Are Mean. Funny, But Mean.

By: chris | Comments 8 Comments

That’s FC Volendam goalkeeper Jeroen Verhoeven. He is, to put it nicely, plump. Quite plump. In fact he might just be the only player in the Eredivisie over 100kg, and he’s almost certainly the only footballer in a European top flight who makes Andy Reid look svelte.
So when bottom – very bottom – Volendam traveled [...]

Poldi-Pixel Update: Michael Schumacher Hearts Lukas. And Pictures Of Himself.

By: chris | Comments 1 Comment

Last month we brought you news of FC Koln’s Poldi-Pixel experiment, through which the smallish German club is aiding their prince’s return home by selling pixels like advertising for €25 a pop. Despite the masses of billionaires with loose cash who read The Offside on a daily basis, it’s not showing the most rapid progress [...]
