Al-Ahly Win Cairo Derby, Continue to Dominate Egyptian League

It was the Cairo derby last night, easily the biggest and best game in Egyptian football. Africa Cup of Nations heroes Mohamamed Aboutreika and Essam Al-Hadary were both missing for Al-Ahly, the former through injury, the latter suspended following his attempted defection to FC Sion.

But Al-Ahly continued to dominate their rivals Zamalek, claiming a 2-0 win with goals from two other Africa Cup of Nations heroes Ahmed Fathi and Emad Moteab (above, check out the mistake by Zamalek’s Beshir El Tabie for Moteab’s goal.) The victory puts the Red Devils an incredible 18 points clear at the top of the Egyptian league. Meanwhile Zamalek are now down in fifth, 20 points behind their rivals.
