Fan for a Match: Moroka Swallows

When we first started our Fan for a Match feature we were bright eyed and bushy tailed. We woke up early every Thursday morning eager to announce the team we had selected to support that week. We were young and naïve and thought that we might be able to lift up downtrodden teams with our cyber support.

Those were the days. After six straight weeks without picking a winning side, we could hardly get out of bed this morning. It didn’t help when we got a flat tire on the way into work – a bad omen or perhaps a metaphor for our Fan for a Match endeavors. But like the masochists we are, we forge on, hoping that this will be the week when the winless skid comes to an end.

We’re focusing out attention on South Africa this Saturday where our heroes from the Morkoka Swallows will face the scum from Ajax Cape Town. Admittedly, this pick is a bit of a stretch. The Swallows – the Dube Birds as their supporters like to call them – have only mustered four points from four games and they are facing an Ajax team that probably has a bit more in the way of talent. We’re hoping that like the mighty bird they represent, the lads from Morkoka will show a lot of heart and screech their way to the Promised Land known as three points. With a player named Lovers Mohlala on their roster, the Swallows can’t go wrong.

As always, we’ll report back with the results on Monday – a day commonly referred to each week as Black Monday in these parts.
