A Name to Remember: Young Rok Shin

By: Bob | July 10th, 2007

young-rok-shin.jpgIf Manchester United’s Park Ji-Sung is the present for South Korea, Young Rok Shin might be the future. The 20-year-old striker for the Suwon Samsung Bluewings is arguably the most promising youngster playing in South Korea. Possessing excellent speed, great off the ball movement and decent height, Young Rok has a knack for scoring goals.

While he hasn’t had much of an impact playing for Suwon in the K-League, Young Rok has demonstrated his talent playing for his country’s youth teams. He knocked in two goals for South Korea in the opening round of this year’s U-20 World Cup, including a beautiful goal against Brazil (video below) just minutes after having his nose broken by a loose elbow and a goal against the United States.

He also featured on South Korea’s U-20 team at the 2005 World Cup and was named the best player at the U-19 Qatar International Tournament in 2006. His talent is still raw and the European clubs have not come a callin’ quite yet, but when you watch his play he shows flashes of Park Ji-Sung and that is why he is A Name to Remember.
