Adelaide United Need to Look Before They Pass

By: Daryl | November 5th, 2008

Adelaide United are the first Australian team to make it to the Asian Champions League Final, where they faced Gamba Osaka in the first leg today. So you can imagine the weight of expectation. Unfortunately, the A-Leaguers pretty much threw away the trophy with two criminally slack passes.

Young Scott Jamieson played a square pass in midfield straight to a Gamba Osaka player, allowing Brazilian Lucas to give the Japanese team a 37th minute lead. Then seven minutes later Adelaide’s own Brazilian Cássio played a similarly stupid crossfield ball, gifting Gamba the ball again and allowing Yasuhito Endo to make it 2-0.

A volley from Michihiro Yasuda later made it 3-0. There’s a second leg still to come next week (12th November in Adelaide) but it’s now looking more like a formality than a final.
