And We All Fall Down
By: Daryl | May 29th, 2009Dirty Tackle beat us to this by about three days, but it’s too good not to post. It’s from the May 19th Asian Champions League game between China’s Tianjin Teda and Australia’s Central Coast Mariners. Very nice PDF match report here (maybe the future really is Asia?)
Tianjin are 1-0 up and CCM have a corner in stoppage time. And as the corner is about to be taken… not one but two Tianjin players – #2 Hang Ye and #19 Tao Nie – suddenly drop to the floor and start rolling around.
The annotation from the YouTuber who posted this (yuvi100 is first class, but even better is the reaction of CCM’s #18 Alexander Wilkinson who bursts out laughing, and #17 James Osman who does a comedy re-enactment of the Tianjin players’ dives.
CCM lost the game 1-0, but they’re no officially my favourite A-League team.
Italian fans will be pleased to know that Damiano Tommasi was not involved in the game, despite being on Tianjin’s books.

I don’t even like CCM, but I think I would have taken a punch in the face to see them score off that corner. Damnit Karma, where were you on that one???

I give the ref credit for not buying into the bullshit and allowing play to continue even if the players weren’t ready. But closer inspection and after match penalties should be applied if appropriate.

No the ref is still at fault for not carding those players. Blatant diving is still a yellow card offense. (wish it was red)
