Ismael Matar helps UAE get over the Hump
By: Bob | January 30th, 2007
The man on the right in the picture to the left is United Arab Emirates striker Ismael Matar who is both celebrating his goal against Oman and practicing riding a camel. Matar scored the lone goal in UAE’s 1-0 win in the final of the Gulf Cup on Thursday, but even before he gave his nation its first title he was a winner. As a reward for lifting the host country into the finals, a UAE fan presented Matar with a pair of camels worth $109,000 each as a reward for his play. Camels in the UAE must come equipped with a killer sound system and air conditioning. There is no word yet how many high-priced animals Matar will receive for his heroics in the final, but surely it must be worth at least 6 llamas if not 3 ostriches.
