Our First Bicycle-Related Sex Scandal

By: Martha | January 24th, 2008

Wallet-trapI have no idea how we missed this the first time around, but way back in June, J-League player Naoya Kikuchi was involved in a sex scandal that was simultaneously really depressing and, also, more than a little hilarious (and long as you’re only reading about it, and not involved). The Júbilo Iwata player, you see, had (loving, sensitive) sex in the backseat of his car with a 15-year-old girl and then, for some reason, tried to give her ¥10,000 for her trouble. Being in it only for the love, the girl refused his money and rode off on her bicycle … with his wallet in the bike’s basket. Yeah, this isn’t going to end well.

Because she was nothing if not honest, the girl took the wallet to the police and turned it in, telling the cops she’d found it lying on the ground. Evidently, our girl was a terrible liar, because the police saw through her ruse and accused her of stealing the wallet, so she gave in and told them the truth. She had no idea the man with whom she’d spent those memorable 10 minute was a J-League footballer and former youth international, but the police did, and the shit hit the fan: The 23-year-old Kikuchi was charged with having sex with a minor, immediately sacked, and handed a year-long domestic ban, while most of the Júbilo executives took pay cuts for allowing someone to bring the club into disrepute.

Once a member of the Japanese Olympic team, Kikuchi was out of a job and without much hope after The Incident, but he’s now been throw a lifeline by 2. Bundesliga side FC Carl Zeiss Jena. The players has been on trial there for a while, and has reportedly impressed sufficiently to be offered a contract. Presumably as long as he’s watched carefully and kept away from anyone who could be younger than 18, Kikuchi might legitimately offer the team some help in their desperate struggle to avoid relegation to the third division.

Laurie’s right — a baguette is rarely just a baguette.

Not in favor of the players actions but how is it that the police, by acting like dumb assholes got lucky with this case?
