Perth Glory Teammates Fight after Match

Perth Glory midfielder Adrian Webster and captain Jamie Harnwell took out their handbags and slugged one another following their team’s 0-0 draw against Adelaide United in A-League action on Thursday. In the perverse universe inhabited by a seventh place team in Australia, teammates engaging in a cat fight is actually viewed as a good thing.

Said Perth Glory’s Simon Colosimo:

“I just think that last week we were terrible against Sydney, this week we’ve come here and showed some passion we didn’t have. Instead of 93 minutes, we showed it for 95,” Colosimo joked.

“It was just handbags to be honest. It’s one of those things that happens. It will all be forgotten about at training tomorrow (Friday), we’ll all have a good laugh about it. Ron will handle it.”

“So that’s about it really. I think the boys want to prove that we are in it. We are here to win some games and get some points in front of the great home crowd we have.”

If teammates fighting is what it takes for a team to wake up from a season long slumber, you have to wonder why more clubs don’t use steel cage death matches as part of their training and why Newcastle didn’t win the Premiership a couple year back.
