The Best of Bob: Champion Of The Little Guys

Here at The Offside we try not to play favorites with the bigger clubs, but let’s face it: media outlets aren’t exactly teeming over with stories on the little guys unless there’s a sex tape or a sex tape. We’re all human. Bob is no such thing. He took it upon himself to dig to the ends of the earth for any sort of loose info on teams such as Gosport, England’s amateur side, the Fighting Cocks, who were desperately in need of a cock blocker at the time (we’d like to think that due to Bob they found their man).

On top of the list are two of Bob’s favorites: the smaller-ish Romanian League (7th in UEFA) and the Kazakhstan National Team (The Snow Leopards). The first love being spawned from Bob’s wine-tasting days in neighboring Moldova, where he was afforded the opportunity to watch Romanian football from afar. A personal favorite was the frequent musing on transfer happenings over there, notably the player-for-pipeline and/or beef type deals.

The second love, the Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, is Bob’s adopted homeland, and a place where he had the privilege of tasting some sheep eyeball. Apparently a memorable experience, as the sheep theme reappeared in the tale of a 3rd division Croatian defender handed a sheep for every goal he scored:

You know what is ruining modern football? It is overpaid players who are just in the game for the obscene bonuses and farm animals. Take Ivica Supe, for example. The defender plays for the Croatian third division club Zagora FC. He has scored 16 goals this season. An impressive number for a forward let alone a defender, but is it really an effort worthy of 16 sheep? I’d say he has had an eight sheep season, max.

I’d say Bob had a 16 sheep run.
