The Case of the Mysterious J-League Underwear Thief

By: Daryl | May 2nd, 2008

stolen underpantsAn unnamed J-League footballer was arrested this week for breaking into a 21 year old woman’s apartment and stealing her panties. The 26-year-old Kashiwa Reysol player also stole her phone and some other stuff. But let’s focus on the panties.

Apparently this took place in 2001 (on September 11th as it happens) while the then 19-year-old player was with Vissel Kobe. But he’s only been arrested now because he broke into another apartment in 2006 while playing for Kawasaki Frontale and the DNA from that little misadventure matched the DNA from his previous outing.

Because the player was 19 at the time of the 2001 panty raid, Japanese Juvenile Law means he cannot be named. So if you manage to figure out which 26-year-old Kashiwa Reysol player has also played for Kawasaki Frontale and Vissel Kobe then keep that name to yourself. Unless you want The Offside to get a visit from Japanese police.

Apart from being a bit of an oddball, this unnamed player also has very bad timing. His arrest comes juts five months before the statute of limitations on the 2001 underwear incident was set to expire. All the player had to say for himself was “It was such a long time ago, I don’t remember a thing.” Which means either he has a very bad memory, or he does this kind of thing a lot.

If only the player had thought to use the vending machines, he could have avoided a lot of trouble.
