Tim Wiese Is Going To Need A Hug And/Or Therapy

By: chris | March 9th, 2008

After having a less than splendid week in Europe – again – Tim Wiese probably relished the chance to go back home to the Bundesliga to get back some sense of normalcy. Only he was facing the monster that is Mario Gomez and Stuttgart, last year’s title winners. By the time the game was over, Tim had let six goals past him (six!) as the two sides combined for nine in a 6-3 goal scoring bonanza. More importantly, Werder failed to keep pace with Bayern, who won their match 2-0 and now have a 7 point lead at the top of the table. If you see Wiese walking around, give the man a hug – he’s going to need some love. (And for the record, Werder’s non-defense was to blame for much of this, but given his last week, I’m sure it’s not making him feel a whole lot better.)

(And if you didn’t already know, Mario Gomez is an absolute phenomenon, who was probably looking at #4 before Per Mertesacker hit him with a terribly timed tackle and earned himself a straight red. I’m also on record as having once called Mario “big German sex with a Spanish name on the pitch”. Run with that however you see fit.)

Gomez is looking good for Germany’s starting XI at Euro 2008. With Klose a bit subdued at Bayern and Poldi not getting many games, we’ll have to stay tuned to see how Jogi chooses among Germany’s top forwards…

I like Bremen’s reaction to losing:
“Manager Thomas Schaff blamed poor defending. ‘I’ve just had to look back at the dressing room to check whether Stuttgart are having a party, because if they are then we should be invited,’ he joked.”

Wiese really is having a horrid time of it at the minute but, I really hope for his sake that it’s only a blip and he can come back even better after this.
I mentioned in a previous blog that I was under the impression that Wiese was a keeper of some quality, I’m beginning to think I may have been wrong!

Wiese runs hot and cold. I suspect he’ll soon be back on the upswing for Bremen.

Yeah but for how long though? If he’s hot and cold then surely it’s only a matter of time before the hot tap decides to give in again? Do you think this is the reason he has not had a move to a ‘major’ club yet?
