Daily Dose: March 17th, 2010 – Happy St. Patrick’s Day
By: Daryl | March 17th, 2010To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day I offer you this Gaelic football clip as a lead in to the links. This solo run from Galway’s Michael Donnellan vs Kildare in the 1998 All-Ireland Final was apparently voted the #1 GAA moment of all time:
I won’t pretend to know a great deal about Gaelic football, but have seen one game (Dublin vs Laois in 2003, I think) and thoroughly enjoyed it. To learn the basics, have a read of the Gaelic Football Wikipedia page, and then you’ll hopefully be able to enjoy the other top 20 GAA moments here.

I read the headline to that video as “Top 20 Gay Moments.”
I’m not quite sure what to think about that.

Up Galway!
The GAA and soccer fans in Ireland don’t always get along. Many GAA heads see soccer as a “foreign game.” Look at the GAA being reluctant to let the ROI National Team use Croke Park while a new home for the ROI was being built. Heck, they had to play in London for their friendly against Brazil. Here’s hoping that GAA heads and soccer fans can get along, or even enjoy both games like me!

The Galwegians obviously employed the “vote early, vote often” method on that one…
In fairness to the GAA on the issue of the Brazil friendly, Croke Park was available to the FAI if they’d wanted it. A game in the Emirates was more lucrative to them, though.
