Adebayor Goes All Zidane on Us
By: Laurie | January 23rd, 2008As a Zidane fan, my ears always prick up when I hear the word “headbutt.” And that’s what I’m hearing all over the place today.
The player on the delivering end this time? Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor. The occasion? Arsenal’s 5-1 drubbing by Tottenham in the Carling Cup. The unlucky recipient? Nicklas Bendtner.
And you’re thinking, Wait. Don’t they play for the same team?
In a word: yes. Because if you can’t headbutt your teammate, who can you headbutt?
Maybe Arsenal’s suck play and Togo’s failure to make the ACN were too much to take?
(The headbutt is barely visible in the background of the video, but news reports are that Bendtner suffered a gash on the nose in the altercation. There was no punishment at the time, but there may be retroactive repercussions.)

My mother says “Eh, [Bendtner] deserved it, putting in an own goal.” My mother is mean. (But funny.)

Oh, right, I forgot EPL is incredibly anal about allowing their videos to be shown. It might make somebody a fan or something and we can’t have that!

It wasn’t a headbutt, but a classic hand in the face & shove. Just watched the upteenth grainy replay on carling cup highlights. Go Tottenham!

Thanks, Jennifer. I’ve been trying to see closer as well. I saw physical contact but didn’t see head-to-face either. I was just repeating what I’d read.
Mele, I just switched to a DailyMotion video. The EPL police don’t seem to have gotten there yet. It’s probablly too tiny here to see anything — double click to go to the original large size.

Erinti, I might agree with your mom… Bendtner’s own goal was pretty bad.

adebayor is one of the most wonderful strikers in the world now and he deserves that reputation.Making him a topmost striker in such a great football club should not be over emphasized.I think Wenger knows his job. He obviously believes Adebayor is fit for that position and that’s why he placed him there. He is doing more than what is expected of him. I believed in no time,Arsenal fans would have nothing to regret about Henry’s departure
