Euro 2008 Mascots Facing Lawsuit
By: Bob | October 2nd, 2006

It hasn’t taken long for those no-good Euro 2008 twin mascots to cause controversy. Following the unveiling of the yet-to-be named androgynous mascots with Swiss/Austrian mountain-like hair last week, the owner of a German cartoon featuring a similar pair of weird looking creatures is threatening to sue the Euro 2008 organizers because he claims they have ripped off his characters, Fix and Foxi (pictured left).
In addition to being somewhat similar in appearance, the Euro twins apparently share similar characteristics with Fix and Foxi.
At the Euro 2008 mascot launch, the tournament’s organisers described one twin as being “the serious and self-controlled type” while the other “is more rebellious and creative”.
On the Fix and Foxi official Web site, Fix is described as “the cheeky cunning one” while his brother is “more cautious and timid but always blindly following his twin.”
Isn’t that how all twins are? One half gets the brains and the other half gets the personality. Sounds accurate to us.
The Euro 2008 organizers claim that their creatures are original and the have lawyers willing to prove it. Lawyers for mascots. There is something so delightfully wrong about all of this.

This is a good thing. The more times there are lawsuits about mascots the better the chance they will get rid of them in the future. Here’s hoping trixie and dixie have their pants (skirts?) sued off of them!

What we need in this world is more absurd lawsuits…though I have to agree with Will that maybe this will make it so that mascots aren’t worthwhile…Hell, can any set of twin boys sue them for stealing their identity? I have some friends who might be interested in the extra cash.

Forget about that. Yesterday at Stamford Bridge, the memory of the late and great Peter Osgood was paid in a memorial service and his ashes were buried beneath the penalty spot at The Shed End.

The Swiss love to use the X. They don’t have any other way to pronounce a “cks” properly.
