Fatal Bosnian Riot Ends In 8 Arrests – Of Cops.
By: chris | October 8th, 2009Things tend to get a bit dicey in the bowels of Eastern European hooliganism, but even this is a bit much to swallow as true. Over this past weekend there was a bit of extracurriculars before the Sarajevo – Siroki Brijeg match which tragically resulted in the death of Vedran Puljic, a Sarajevo supporter. The death came via a single gun shot to the neck, and was caught on video which produced a suspect. The problem is, it is rumored to be one of the cops, there to quash the violence.
There’s nothing grizzly about it, but as soon as you start the video there’s a pop from a gun and then at the very bottom of the left corner a group begins to surround someone on the ground. A bit later a lifeless body is removed from the screen.
Now this would probably be enough to make news in itself, but then things got a bit complicated when the suspect, who’d turned himself in, suddenly disappeared. In a setting befitting a classic movie plot, the “suspect”, assumed at this point to be a cop, had been released and helped into hiding by a crew of other policeman. Now, as a result of this little helping hand, 8 cops have been arrested and Bosnia has itself a full blown fugitive hunt.
Tragedy, corruption and cinema-esque fugitive hunts. Just another day in the life of football hooliganism.

They should make football hooliganism legal and organised. This will reduce the thrill of it a turn most people away. Make them all wear a firm’s colours, have a scorekeeper (with reference to an number of pre-determined and creative points scoring criteria) and if anyone survives, invite them to Round 2. Eventually, they’ll all (a) be dead, or (b) turned off from hooliganism all together. Or, maybe not.
