FC Sion Hires 22nd Coach in Eight Years

If you are looking for a gig with a little bit of job security, you might want to reconsider that Monster.com application you submitted to become the manager position at FC Sion in Switzerland. Sure, the job pays pretty well and Switzerland is a wonderful place to live, but chances are that you will be looking for another job even before you finish unpacking your bags there.
The Swiss First Division side announced today that Marco Schaellibaum is their new manager. He is the 22nd man to have that position on a business card in the past eight years under club president Christian Constantin, who likely will never receive any Boss of the Year award nominations from his employees.
Schaellibaum takes over after his predecessor, Nestor Clausen, resigned at halftime of last week’s 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Cup. Clausen’s team was trailing at the intermission and apparently having their coach up and quit served as a bit of an inspiration in the final 45.
“Clausen’s time at Sion is over,” Constantin said. “I found out the news at the same time as the players which was at half-time. I’ve never seen or heard anything like this.”
Considering the number of men before him who were either fired or quit, Clausen deserves some credit for making his departure an original one. I haven’t checked the official odds, but I’m giving even money that the new coach is out of a job before Christmas.
