Freddy Adu owns the Portuguese League Cup

Lest you were thinking that Freddy Adu might have been feeling sad that he missed Real Salt Lake’s season ending victory over the Colorado Rapids, the video above shows what Adu was up to this weekend (and reminds us all that he is indeed still alive). He hasn’t received many minutes since transferring to Benfica this summer, but Adu does seem to be enjoying the Portuguese League Cup. His goal against Setubal was the second he has scored in the competition. Admittedly, the goal wasn’t all that special so in order to fill my quota of excellent goals for the week, check out the one from Mladen Petric below. Simply superb.

Freddy's goal may not have looked that exceptional to you, but it looked like a pretty high degree of difficulty shot to me considering he one touched it cross field between his defender and the keeper to hit the opposite bottom corner of the goal. Sure it was from his strong side, but that goal looked pretty special to me.

I'm not sure two goals (one of them a penalty, and the other not that impressive) make for "owning" a Cup, but it's good to see Adu doing somewhat well in Portugal. The league cup doesn't seem to be too coveted, but at least he gets some play in the competition, and maybe it will lead to more minutes in the league and in Europe.
