It was a less than successful season for Chernomorets
By: Bob | July 9th, 2007
I’m always a sucker for the underdog and I have a lot of admiration for fans of teams that perpetually suck, like Real Salt Lake. It takes courage to stick with a team that you know is going to get their heads kicked in on a weekly basis. No matter how bad you club is you can at least take solace in knowing that it could be worse. Except, of course, if you are a supporter of the Bulgarian club Chernomorets Burgas Sofia. It can’t get much worse than the season you just witnessed.
A look at the league table in Bulgaria shows Levski Sofia at the top with 77 points. Chernomorets finished 16 spots behind the champions, a mere 79 points off the pace. That, my friends is ugly. It gets worse when you break down the numbers:
30 games played, 0 wins, 1 draw, 29 losses
8 goals for, 131 goals against, -2 points
The negative points are a result of the club being penalized three points for not fielding enough youth players. Can you blame the kids in Bulgaria for not wanting to suit up for a team that bad?
The only thing worse is to be known as the team that drew with Chernomorets during the 2006/2007 season. I’m not sure who it was but my guess is that it was Real Salt Lake.

Bob, Amazing we were on the same page. It is just pure pain to see my team lose like this. The city of Salt Lake is a proud one when it comes to sports. RSL will not survive here without turning it around. Right now I think there are a couple of local soccer clubs that could put a hurt on the team.

Wow … almost 4 and a half goals allowed per game and 8 scored all season? … Ouch. RSL is a joy ride through the land of chocolate compared to supporting Chernomorets. Perhaps it will give them some solace to know that the OTHER Chernomorets, Ch. Odessa, is in the second round of the Intertoto Cup and won their first leg 4-2. Perhaps not.
