Photo of the Day: The Sacred Game?
By: Laurie | February 7th, 2008
I can’t remember the original source of this photo, but I fell in love with it the first time I saw it and saved it. It was even my computer wallpaper for awhile. There’s just something about the way it juxtaposes the everyday and the sacred that I find interesting.
It was part of photo collection, somewhere, that looked at the role of soccer/football around the world. If you know where it came from, leave the info in the comments and I’ll amend the post. Otherwise, just enjoy.

Ehsan, I was so curious about where I found this that I went searching. I remembered that one of the others in the collection was monks watching a game, so I did a search for “monks watching football” and came up with this site, which did also have the above picture. Many, many, many other fascinating footy pictures as well.
You’d probably have to pay for the high-res version. How much I have no idea. But here’s the link to the site. http://www.magnumphotos.com/Archive/C.aspx?VP=Mod_ViewBoxInsertion.ViewBoxInsertion_VPage&R=2TYRYDO4MVRP&RP=Mod_ViewBox.ViewBoxThumb_VPage&CT=Album

Laurie, thank you so much! That gallery is exactly what I was looking for to start my wall art collection. A framed copy of that would look beautiful in the TV room. Now if I could only figure out how to buy something from their website.
