Somebody Please Give Hleb A Peno & Bendtner A Hug

By: chris | April 3rd, 2008

There’s been a lot of talk regarding the refereeing in domestic leagues his season, with two league in particular - Serie A and the Premiership - being strongly urged to consider importing referees from abroad. Giving the theory validity was the refereeing provided by Frank De Bleeckere of Belgium in the Roma - ManU game on Tuesday; aside from a solitary yellow card, it was fantastic and nearly flawless. Wednesday’s Arsenal - Liverpool game seemed to start off alright, but didn’t exactly end well. As you can see above, there was a mighty blatant penalty not given to Hleb after slicing through Liverpool’s back line. Wenger’s pissed, but Rafa thought it was the right call. Shocking, eh? Also, there’s a new rumor circulating Benitez is looking to sign Nicklas Bendtner for central defense next summer……

Late game had plenty of drama when Bendtner cleared Cesc’s ball off Liverpool’s line in what would have been a sure goal, being flagged offside in the process. It wasn’t really his fault, he was attempting to dodge the ball, but it didn’t stop him from looking like was about to cry, soil himself, or both afterwards.

The no call against Hleb was brutal. I know Hleb likes to fall down but c’mon. You can’t just run across a dude and spin him around by his arm. Nice work Kuyt, you cheat.
Though poor Bentdner looked like a total tool, I can’t understand how he was offside since I saw in more than one replay some Liverpool guy lingering on the goal line through the whole play. Unless Bentdner was face down behind the goal line which clearly would have been actually better, he could have not been offside. You can keep your dutch referee. Thank you very much.

Arsenal players go down like fat girls on prom night. I was surprised that there wasn’t 5 min of injury time after each half.

To be offside you must be beyond the second to last opposing player (and the ball), which, as far as I can see, he was.

this game absolutely SUCKED! Arsenal outplayed Liverpool so much and should have won by at least 2 if not 3 goals not to mention the uncalled PK. Just ONCE i want a game to be refed by a half-decent not-blind referee. Liverpool players/fans are some lucky lucky lucky lucky chaps.
