We’re not sure what their putting in the water in Sweden these days, but the country that has given the world Ikea, Volvo and Abba is seeing its share of football violence this season. A couple of weeks ago there was Henrik Larsson’s minor assault on the pitch. Yesterday’s Stockholm derby between Hammarby and Djurgaarden had to be abandoned after fans starting throwing flares on the field and there was a pitch invasion. As the video below shows (it is interesting for about 20 seconds), the thugs who support these two sides don’t really like each other much.

Amazing to watch from a scientific study of mob mentality standpoint. The waves of attack, the guys taking turns to be at the front line - rushing out to give one flying kick then back to the safety of the pack, the pushing from behind that drives the entire mob forward whether the guys at the front want to or not. The picture quality was poor, but I have no idea how they can tell who is supporting who.
