vfbspieler_10778_th.jpgFans of the German Bundesliga are already very familiar with the name Mario Gomez. The 21-year-old VfB Stuttgart forward is currently tied for the league lead with 8 goals and his quick start this season has earned the praise of none other than Franz Beckenbauer, who says Super Mario deserves a call up for Germany’s national team this very second.

Born in Riedlingen, the half-Spanish Gomez has been a fixture on Germany’s youth teams. Known as a goal poacher, Gomez has attracted the attention of Germany’s biggest clubs, including Bayern Munich, who he scored against last weekend. He is under contract to VfB Stuttgart until 2011, but with more goals and a likely appearance on the national team it might be only a matter of time before he moves on to greener pastures.

According to the VfB Stuttgart official Web site, Gomez’s hobbies include music, tennis and the always popular “meeting friends.” He is also single and a Cancer for those who admire more than just his football skills.

In a country that displayed a number of talented youngsters at this year’s World Cup, Mario Gomez is a player to keep an eye on.

There is a noticeable dearth of video on YouTube about Gomez, but the video below shows what it means to have good speed and to be a goal poacher.
