Angry Koln Fans Set Off Smoke Bombs

Relegation is something like a breakup: most fans don’t take it well, but the ones who knew they were punching above their weight anyway walk away with solemn graciousness and heaps of gratitude. Fans of Koln fall into the former.

In the midst of a spiral to the depths of the Bundesliga.2 on the same day they shuffled Lukas Podolski off to Arsenal, with Hertha Berlin on their way to the win which nets them the relegation playoff game, Koln fans set off some smoke bombs. This then prompted the shuffling of lots of black suits and white helmets, in a scene that looked something out of a Hollywood movie.
