Bayern Munich Signs The Common Man
By: chris | January 26th, 2012
High up on the list of things no to do with football fans is to promise the unveiling of a big new signing and then fail to follow through. Worse is to promise a big signing and then come through with someone who won’t even find the end of the bench on the reserves. Like Bayern did this afternoon, requesting their fans tune into an official press conference to unveil the signing, which turned out to be the photo of the fan who’d logged in via facebook.
Do they realize how much most of these signings suck? That’s just crushing. Unless of course Lionel is a Bayern fan.
The bad idea followed with an even worse reaction.
But instead of learning who would be striker Mario Gomez’s backup, they were instead presented with a promotion entitled “The New FCB Star.”“Dear fans, you probably already noticed that we did not sign a new player. This app is for our fans to show the importance of you for our club,” Bayern said.
The move has lead to a backlash from fans, with thousands leaving uncomplimentary comments on the club’s Facebook page.
“Each Bayern fan is the ‘spectacular new signing,’ our 12th man!” Bayern said on its website.
There’s only one right way to go about getting payback…
Thousands of fans show up to the next training session angrily demanding to take part – and only at the top of the formation, in the position they were promised.
