Bayern’s Winning Streak Comes To A Shuddering Halt
By: Rob | March 20th, 2010This morning when I previewed the run-ins around Europe, I spent a bit less time on Germany, because at the time of my writing, Bayern were on a 19 game unbeaten run. Well, that’s all over now, and the title race is on-on-on.
Two late goals from Eintracht Frankfurt gave them a 2-1 win over Bayern, who stay top for the time being, at least untill Schalke’s visit to Hamberger SV tomorrow afternoon. If Schalke get the win, they’ll move top.
The Schalke cause was helped by Bayer Leverkusen, who also suffered a loss today against Dortmund. It wasn’t a close match mind – it finished 3-0 to the team in yellow.
The German title race just took another turn toward the dramatic.

You do realize you’re talking about Schalke?

Luke – I guess you are refering to Shalke’s growing inconsitency, but nonetheless they have a great chance to capitalize on Bayern’s choke in Frankfurt.

I’m sure Luke is referring more to the well known Schalke team chant “Nie Deutscher Meister”. ;)
Or perhaps he’s talking about their well deserved “Meister der Herzen” nickname.
I’m not a Schalke fan whatsoever, but I actually hope they win this year.

I’m actually referring to 41 seasons of Bundesliga futility no matter how great their chances appear to be.

We already know that 42 is the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything. Maybe after this season, we’ll know the question.

The mighty BVB (though fairly average overall) will win the title. You heard it here first.

Perhaps this is the payoff for the shady deal to snatch CL spots from Italy to Germany- we’ll let you magically go forward in CL if you can manage to lose some of the domestic league games? I can only hope for another Torino…

Well Luka, even after a match like *that*, I think Bayern can manage 13 points from 7 matches so the math just doesn’t work out for BVB. But, in the longer term view, I would agree they are a team on the rise.

Frankfurt!!! After going to a Frankfurt match a few years ago I adopted them as my German team. I’ve been to matches throughout Europe and Frankfurt fans were just on a whole different level from everyone else. If you want a good fan experience at a football match, check out a Bundesliga game. What an awesome win!
