Bild Celebrates the Worst Haircuts in Bundesliga History…
By: Daryl | September 26th, 2008
…and as you can imagine, competition is fierce. Check out Mike Werner of Hansa Rostock, to your left. Scare-ree. He looks like a normal human climbed into The Fly machine with a hedgehog.
Why are Bild inflicting these gruesome stylings on everyone again? The German paper (now with English language website) is celebrating the launch of the new Panini sticker album by showing some of the most mullet-and-moustache-tastic stickers of years gone by.
For my money, Werner is the clear winner. He just looks mental. But there are a couple more eye-poppers below:

Like this moustache that Herbert Heidenrich is wearing. It looks like it’s been painted on. It’s also amazing that he never played for Liverpool FC.

And how about Lothar Woelk here? Looks like he’s just emerged from a year living in the woods and signed for Bochum. Shudder.
There are more scary photos of German men in Bild’s slideshow here.
But this got me thinking, all these haricuts (both head and facial) probably seemed perferctly normal – fashionable even – back in the day. Even Mike Werner’s. So which modern footballer’s haircuts will kids be looking back on 20 years from now and laughing at?

Too bad Pies isn’t around anymore to enter these into the Horror Hair HOF…and yes, Heidenreich does have the classic Liverpool ‘tache and perm, but somehow I don’t think the mustache would quite match the overall brilliance of Souness’ fro/stache combo or the sheer amount of fail epitomized in Rush’s plastic hair/broom mustache/hideous face
