Mad Jens: Certified Accessory Thief.
By: chris | February 23rd, 2009Oh yes he has. Mad Jens has struck once again. In the same week, no less.
In Saturday’s big fixture between Stuttgart and Hoffenheim – a big fixture in the table which needed a bigger scoreboard, as it ended 3-3 – Sejad Salihovic loses his shoe somewhere in the middle of Stuttgart’s half due to something resembling a footballing action – no crime there. Play continues but when it finally stops, Sejad and the ref are mystified as his shoe has inexplicably disappeared. The ref, a stickler for hygiene and good taste, gives him a “no shoes, no service” spiel and sends Sejad off the pitch to find his footwear.
The culprit? Who else. Mad Jens Winona Rydered Sejad’s shoe while no one was looking and casually fired it on top of his goal (goal mouth cam after the jump with flying shoe – I guess that’s the Flying Shoe Cam), some 40 yards from where it was lost. Genius.
It looks completely innocent, as though Jens is merely trying to clear the field of play….but this is Jens we’re talking about. Clearly it was part of his pregame plan and he’d pulled this little play out of his sock just before the cameras panned his way. Fortunately, and surprisingly, he didn’t fumble it across the goal line.
Don’t go, Jens. Don’t ever go.

Ok. Now other than the hilarious absurdity of the incident… I mean what are the ODDS of Salihovic actually finding that shoe after Lehmann disposed of it? One in 1,000? And HE DOES find it!!!!
Does anyone have any updates on this? Is the German FA going to reprimand Lehmann in any way? I’m sure his defense would be something like “I was just cleaning up the garbage & keeping the field clean”.

Lehmanns excuse is on The Spoiler (www.thespoiler.co.uk duh)
“Rangnick’s statement surprises me a lot. It is sad that he does not even seem to know the rules and calls me unfair. While he of all things tolerates the rude foul of that player [Salihović] through which Boka suffered a torn outer ligament. So where is the proportionality in that?
“Usually the referee had to stop the game and send the player off the field so he could have put his shoe back on there. So now the shoe lies were it could be an obstacle for a shot or a through pass. If Rangnick would follow everything so closely like he always pretends he would know that is what I do with everything in and around my penalty area.
“I can claim to not have seriously injured a player in 20 years and I have to deal repeatedly with classless (lacking niveau) comments just because people think they can do big headlines with my name.”

Now that Ollie has retired, it’s really up to Jens to shoulder the burden of lunacy until another German keeper is ready to help assume the mantle. Good work, Jens.

The second video still works.
Dunno, the shoe was in the way – now it isnt. What is the big deal? He didn’t throw it at anyone. Now that would have been good.

I think you’ll be pleased to know, chris, that Jens has said he wants to go into management. If that comes to pass (and oh, I hope it does), we’ve got at least twenty more years of him.
