Maybe Joey Barton is a Leverkusen Fan
By: Bob | October 20th, 2006
There are many ways you can choose to support your club during a match. You can stand and sing for 90 minutes, for example. Or you can heckle an opposing player. Or you can applaud you own team’s efforts. But all of these ways fall short of how a Bayer Leverkusen fan showed his support during his team’s away match against Club Bruges in the UEFA Cup. He repeatedly showed his bum to Bruges supporters in the stands.
Public mooning is apparently not taken lightly in Belgium and the fan in question is going to receive a summons to appear in a Bruges courtroom. The prosecutor in the case Yves Segaert, who has to be questioning his decision to go to law school right about now, described the fan’s actions the following way:
“He pulled his trousers down several times during the match and showed his butt to the Bruges fans,” Segaert said. “He did this to annoy some hard core fans and provoke them.
“The temperature was going up and he almost caused a serious problem with security.”
The fan’s identity has not been made public, but if video of the moonings exists, police would be wise to compare the identifying marks on his buttocks with those of a certain exhibitionist in England.

Since when did the Belgians get so uptight? Last I knew, public nudity was their thing, just like basically everywhere else. I lived in Brussels when I was a small child and apparently there was a billboard across the street of a naked woman selling yogurt. I guess it’s all in your cultural perspective…here in the US mooning is considered normal and showing your breasts is where you get into the land of “no-no”…except on Mardi Gras…
