Pierre Wome Is A Bad, Bad Boy

By: chris | August 19th, 2008

Cologne defender/epic journeyman Pierre Wome is about to be in some really big trouble. At the end of this weekend’s game against Wolfsburg, Pierre threw what looks to have been a quite intentional elbow at Ashkan Dejagah (4:08 mark above) that is now under investigation by those who take care of these matters in the Bundesliga. That one’s going to be tough for Pierre to dispute.

But what’s more - and it doesn’t appear the DFB has picked up on this one - at the 3:08 mark above Wome looks to have thrown another vicious elbow at, you guessed it, Dejagah. He could probably argue he was turning, but that was a pretty violent turn with an elevated elbow. Which leads one to believe Dejagah and Wome aren’t exactly the best of friends and that Pierre may have something of a vendetta. A vendetta which is probably going to get him a very long suspension at some point in the near future.

Now the elbows only enhance what might be the best game highlight video of the month. The goals were alright, play fairly decent, but what makes this stand out is the great shot of the little kid attempting to climb the seats…before tumbling back down, and the German announcer somehow seamlessly working “superfly” in English into his commentary. Brilliant all around. Except for Wome. Bad Wome.

Ridiculous! I can only think he might have been pissed that the other player came at him with studs up at knee height to react that way. But he’ll be sitting in the stands for some time I should think.

Wome… isn’t that the same guy that had to flee out of Cameroon, for missing that WC 2006 qualifier penalty-shot vs. Ivory Coast?

Oh, and despite my rusty German I didn’t hear any “superfly” Chris… :) what minute was that one?

2:56. And Daryl heard it too, in my defense should this turn out to be some German word which sounds similar.

Ahah that’s not “superfly” at all. :) The sentence (as best as I could hear) is “Die Kölner mit großen Problemen jetz sich ZU BEFREIEN“.

Which I think means “Koln now having to deal with several problems” (because the video highlights a good play & shot by Wolfsburg). “Befreien” means “liberate” though… so I’m not entirely sure on the translation, to be frank.

In any case, definitely no ’superfly’… but close enough. :P
