Poldi-Pixel Update: Michael Schumacher Hearts Lukas. And Pictures Of Himself.
By: chris | February 26th, 2009![]()
Last month we brought you news of FC Koln’s Poldi-Pixel experiment, through which the smallish German club is aiding their prince’s return home by selling pixels like advertising for €25 a pop. Despite the masses of billionaires with loose cash who read The Offside on a daily basis, it’s not showing the most rapid progress – raising a relatively modest, by their target goal, €96,000 as of yet. So shame on you billionaires in the audience. (There is that whole financial crisis thing, though – probably not the best time for a football club looking for transfer market donations.)
But it did get a small boost from one Michael Schumacher, a man many – those not from the Southern US and/or married to a member of their immediate family – consider the greatest racing driver of all time. Mike coughed up €875 for the opportunity to plaster a relatively prominent photo of himself in a turtleneck on the page (it can more easily be seen at the site). Personally I think he should’ve gone with a classic helmet. Or a dejected and irate-looking Damon Hill circa 1994.
And Mike left a nice message for Lukas too:
“So, boy, you decided to follow your heart…Now you can show what you’ve got and allow all FC fans to celebrate again.”
That’s nice, but quite lame when you think he’s probably got Podolski’s €10m transfer fee somewhere in a couch.
