Rolling Stones Tear it up in Stuttgart
By: Bob | August 7th, 2006
Those pesky geriatrics have caused trouble again. Proving that even in old age they can cause mayhem and destruction, the Rolling Stones have left Horst Heldt, manager of the German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, madder than holy heck.
The reason for Heldt’s displeasure with Mick and the gang is that the Stones held a concert at his club’s stadium Friday and left behind a pitch that resembled the Rhineland in 1945.
Stuttgart opens its Bundesliga campaign at home this weekend against Nuremburg and will have to play on a patched up pitch.
“The condition of the lawn is a catastrophe. Our worst fears have materialized,” Heldt said.
“A week before our start we have such poor conditions. No other Bundesliga city has to deal with such issues. We are the main tenants in the stadium and we now have the problems,” he said.
Hmm, the question that begs to be answered is why in the world the concert was held a week before the opening of the season?
The bigger, unasked question, of course, is why do people still pay huge bucks to see the Stones?
