Roman Weidenfeller isn’t very creative or charming
By: Bob | August 20th, 2007
The Revier derby took place this weekend with Schalke 04 putting the hammer down on rivals Borussia Dortmund 4-1. After the game Schalke forward Gerald Asamoah – the first black player to play for the German national team - accused Dortmund keeper Roman Weidenfeller of calling him a “black pig” after the two collided in the box early in the second half.
“Words are always said in such a game, but when you hear things like that, it is very disappointing,” Asamoah told WDR.
“You cannot say that. Weidenfeller apologised to me while the game was still being played and he regrets it, but I don’t know why he cannot admit it afterwards.
“He should tell the truth.”
The German football federation is investigating the matter, as they should. Using racist terms to deride an opponent is so 1940. Asamoah got the final say in the matter when he beat Weidenfeller with a diving header.

Yeah, I’m staying away from this one. Weidenfeller would be one to get aggravated easily and say something like this, but it’s a touchy subject.
Asamoah should just shrug it off and know that he beat him with a great goal.

In Materazzi-Zidane fashion lip readers have backed Asamoah’s accusations. That could mean a five match ban for Weidenfeller and a 3 points point deduction + fine for Dortmund from what I’ve heard.
