PSV 4-3 Ajax: Eredivisie = Goals, Goals, Goals

By: Daryl | August 16th, 2009

The ever-high scoring Dutch Eredivisie provided another goalfest this weekend, with PSV beating Ajax 4-3 at Philips Stadion.

Things couldn’t have started much worse for PSV, as keeper Andreas Isaksson gifted Luis Suarez the opening goal by taking a first touch that went further than many players passes.

But six goals later (including two excellent free kicks from PSV’s Hunagrian left winger Balázs Dzsudzsák ) bounced back, PSV won the seven goal in the 74th minute when Otman Bakkal took a cross down with his chest and volleyed home.

I’ve only seen the above highlights, but this game looked like a great advert for the Dutch league, and yet more proof that if it’s goals you want then Eredivisie is the place to watch.

It certainly makes for exciting games. A lot of high scoring matches in Eredivision are 5 or 6 to zero drubbings by the good teams against the minnows. The league has a hugggeee gap in quality.

Also, it has pitiful defending and goalies. Showcased by those highlights. If there was any quality at those spots it would’ve been a 1-1 or 2-1 match.

Funny, Andreas Isaksson used to be a pretty good keeper. As a Sweden fan I was proud of him. The Eredivisie must have messed him up.

I watched this live (on tv that is). It was easily the best game I have seen all year. Thing is – it wasn’t just the quality or quantity of the goals – but the quality of the game in general. It was end-to-end but not via long balls, but by great passing moves and movement off the ball, with both teams leaving no stone unturned to score another goal.

I watch this game highlights and last half hour.
what I see knowing its just the 3 competition game for both teams this season,it shows again the philosophy behind dutch soccer expression , the best defence is always play offence,It was just a game you can see early in the season but for a soccer fan who likes goals it was perfect. I hope for PSV they can keep this way of playing through the season fresh and with lot of opertunisme.
bottom line it was dutch way of playing soccer.
