Cardiff are not allowed to play in FAW cup anymore because they were winning it every year and therefore would be qualifying for europe. if they win the English FA cup surely they should be allowed to enter europe. should they be excluded from both competitions? One or the other i say. if they can’t qualify through the FA cup they should be allowed to play in the FAW cup.

You guys do know how outrageously bad the Welsh league is right? It’s like giving someone the choice between losing a finger or losing a leg.

Uhhhh, this situation isn’t messy at all. It’s Cardiff’s decision not to play in Europe, not the English FA’s. Eons ago when Cardiff asked to join the English pyramid, the FA said, “you can either compete in the Welsh domestic league, or we’ll allow you into the English domestic league but you can’t take an English European place… your choice.” Cardiff knew the options upfront, and they chose England/no-Europe over Wales/Europe. Again, it was their choice. As such, there’s nothing messy about it and they shouldn’t be allowed into Europe. If the day comes that they decide the Europe option really is of primary importance to them then they can always join the Wales domestic league.

Monaco are a different case – there is no Monaco league. Wales want to have their cake and eat it. They want a separate FA and a separate national team, yet when it’s convenient they want their best team to be English!

Cardiff has chosen to be a Welsh team in England. If they played in the Welsh league, they’d be in Europe every year, but they traded that chance for the ability to play in England. It’s their choice, and they can rejoin the Welsh league if they want to play in Europe.

I think that is just plain wrong, it really shouldn’t matter if they are Welsh or English if they are the winners – They should be able to compete in Europe!

What a bunch of douchebags! If Cardiff City was able to beat Chelsea AND Liverpool, they could probably handle the teams in the Champions League! Cardiff City should be allowed to compete, it’s not their fault if the English teams suck.
