Carling Cup Match Abandoned after Clive Clarke collapses

clive-clarke.jpgThis is turning out to be a depressing week to be a football fan. The Carling Cup match between Leicester City and Nottingham Forest was called off at half-time Tuesday after Leicester defender Clive Clarke collapsed in the dressing room. “Clive was very seriously ill,” said Leicester chief executive Tim Davies. “He was taken away in an ambulance to hospital. He did offer a few words in the ambulance. Our thoughts and prayers are with Clive and his family. I would like to say a big thank you to Nottingham Forest for dealing with the matter so fast.”

The 27-year-old Clarke, who is on loan to Leicester from Sunderland, is being treated at a nearby hospital and is reported to be conscious. There haven’t been any reports of what caused Charles to collapse. The incident follows on the heels of the news that Sevilla’s Antonio Puerta passed away three days after suffering a heart attack in a game and QPR’s Ray Jones died in a car accident.

My thoughts go out to Clarke for a speedy recovery.
