Checking in with Paul Gascoigne
By: Bob | January 31st, 2007
When we last checked in with Paul Gascoigne he was busy causing actual bodily harm at 4:15am at a nightclub in London. Things could only go up from there, right? Well, maybe. Today we learn that Gazza is back off the wagon and is spending his time shopping at charity thrift stores.
From This is London:
He told our source: “You can get some really good bargains, I bought my mum, dad and sisters presents from charity shops and I still buy myself stuff.
“You can save so much money so I go in and have a good look around for stuff that will save me money because I can’t afford to spend much on things anymore.
“My favourite one is in Ladbroke Grove because you can get designer stuff for next to nothing.
“They know me pretty well in there now because I am always buying things there.”
Not that there is anything wrong with doing a little thrift shopping. I once was tempted to buy a pair of Bill Clinton’s used underwear at a thrift store to make them into a tent. But still it is sad to see how personal demons and poor choices can lead a person who was once on top of the world into such a sorry state. I’m probably not alone in hoping that some day we’ll be reading stories about how Gazza is turning his life around. With each passing day that seems increasingly unlikely.
