Absolutely no doubt, Chelsea needs him much than anyone else. Terry is definitely worth of that much. And I don’t think that Terry is ‘overrated’.

But Ian Rose there is spot on. John Terry is massive, footballing or otherwise. He came through the academy, is a one club man, a leader, a decent man and a supreme central defender. If him and Fabio Cannavaro got together you might as well cancel the league. With or without Makelele in front of him and Cech behind him, you can't take anything away from what JT achieves as a world class player on the pitch. The thing you didn't quite put which I have argued is that he and Lampard are the ones who will make kids fans, and get them to support Chelsea now and in the future. The are what remains of Chelski's soul and that is what survives in the long-run, and he will directly and indirectly bring in at least the £35m that will be spent on him.
