A Name to Remember: Tarik Elyounoussi

By: Bob | November 30th, 2006

tarik-elyounoussi.jpgNorway is a country that has helped us all learn how to pronounce names like Morten Gamst Pedersen and Ole Gunnar Solskjær. For a country with a pretty small population it has produced a number of quality football exports over the years.

The next Norwegian who may be coming to a stadium or television screen near you is Tarik Elyounoussi. The 18-year-old striker was impressive in his first season with Fredrikstad, helping his club to capture the Norwegian League Cup. His play has captured the attention of more than a few teams in Europe.

Elyounoussi was invited to train with Chelsea earlier this month, but was unable to partake in the fun because his club’s director was sick (you’d think the idea of selling one of his players for big money would make him feel good enough to get out of bed). Elyounoussi also recently turned down an offer to train with Portsmouth because of, get this, schoolwork. Come on, kid, get your priorities straight. You don’t need to know how to read or write to play in the Premiership.

In any event, baring another flu bug at Fredrikstad or more trigonometry homework, Elyounoussi will undoubtedly get his moment to shine in England and by all accounts he likely will shine bright. Regrettably, there is no YouTube video of the kid so just picture in your mind a talented young forward scoring lots of goals with the wonderful sound of butt rock in the background.

    Hello,
I am actually from Fredrikstad , Norway. I have seen Tarik play many times. In Fredrikstad we call him by his first name. He is an amazing player and got his chance to shine after Brian West got injured in the season. He is a starting striker at such a young age and is good internationally under 21 to. I’d buy him.
