Actual Bodily Harm is Apparently not Gross

One of the great things about being a fan in the modern football era is that the players are helping us all to prepare for law school. Today we learn that if you pop someone in the face you can either be charged with actual bodily harm or gross bodily harm. West Ham’s Anton Ferdinand has been charged with actual bodily harm for his role in the now cliché late night nightclub brawl. Really, shouldn’t they just change the laws so that getting beaten up by a footballer at a nightclub is included in the cover charge?

I’m not sure if Barrow defender James Cotterill is a nightclub boxer himself, but he has demonstrated his pugilistic ways on the pitch. Cotterill has been charged with gross bodily harm for fracturing Bristol Rovers striker Sean Rigg’s jaw during an FA Cup match earlier this month. For all of the aspiring lawyers out there, the video below is a clear demonstration of gross bodily harm.
