Diamonds are a Drogba’s Best Friend; An Abramovich Musical
By: Bob | September 18th, 2007
When you close your eyes and conjure up an image of Didier Drogba you undoubtedly see a blond bombshell making men swoon like a striker diving to the turf, right? Ok, conjuring up such an image would require a creative mind or copious amounts of drugs or a seat at the Royal Albert Hall during an upcoming concert to benefit Africa.
The Chelsea striker is scheduled to perform a rendition of Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend, a song made famous by Drogba’s apparent soul mate, Marilyn Monroe.
The soccer star, who has reportedly been backed by his teammates to go through with the performance, will be supported by 3,000 gospel singers at the show.
By backing of his teammates, they mean Chelsea’s player can’t wait to piss their pants watching this spectacle. God bless them. This has all the makings of an instant hit. Hopefully it will be the title track on the Drogbacite album we have all been anxiously waiting for.
Not to be outdone by his player, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will be offering his own contribution to the music world.
A British musical about Roman Abramovich, the Russian billionaire and owner of England’s Chelsea soccer club, will premier at the end of 2007. The musical is based on The Billionaire from Nowhere, a biography about Mr. Abramovich by Chris Hutchins and Dominic Midgley. It will feature choirs of oligarchs and soccer players, and actors playing both of Mr. Abramovich’s ex-wives and former and current Russian presidents, Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin. The producer, Tony Cartwright, said Mr. Abramovich donated the $170 million needed to make the musical, though a spokesman for the Russian tycoon denied it.
