Everyone and no one wants to buy Liverpool

sheikh-mohammed-bin-rashid-al-maktoum-54.jpgSince they hung up the For Sale sign in the front window of Anfield a year and a half ago, Liverpool have attracted interest from local builder Steve Morgan, the ousted Thai Prime Minister, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Montreal Canadiens owner George Gillett and a consortium associated with the Dubai government. Like the others before them, you can apparently scratch the Dubai group off the list now.

Even with unlimited money in the bank and the world at your fingertips it is still possible to fall victim to that tricky little emotion known as jealousy.

BBC sports editor Mihir Bose told BBC Radio Five Live that he believed Sheikh Mohammed was angry with Liverpool’s courting of tycoon Gillett who is expected to make a revised takeover bid.

Bose said: “Mohammed is a very angry man and that is why he has pulled out. He was given assurances by Liverpool that they would go with them but the talk of other offers has unsettled him and he has pulled out.

“DIC saw this as business enterprise but Gillett has told Liverpool that they are a sports franchise and they know how to run sports operations.

“With Gillett it won’t be like an Roman Abramovich deep pockets scenario.”

It kind of is like going to a high school dance and seeing the girl you brought slow dancing with another guy. Except in this case Sheikh Mogammed isn’t out $20 for a meal and he isn’t angry about the missed opportunity to get to second base in the backseat of his parent’s car.

The good news is we might see more billionaire bitch fights over football teams in the future.
