Is Kevin Keegan Coming Back to Manage Newcastle?

By: Daryl | September 12th, 2008

There are unconfirmed rumours floating around that Mike Ashley has been spotted meeting with Kevin Keegan in London today. Maybe the pair were in just the capital to innocently take in a show (I hear The Lion King is simply dreamy) but it’s not too much of a jump to think maybe Keegan could be coming back to manage Newcastle.

Here’s why I think this might be possible:

1. There’s no way Ashley would bother meeting Keegan himself if this was just to iron out the legal details of Keegan’s resignation. He’s got people for that.
2. There’s been no rush at Newcastle to find a suitable replacement.
3. Mutual desires: Keegan’s desire to actually live up to his Geordie Messiah title + Mike Ashley’s desire not to face massive protests at St James’ Park tomorrow might = a return to the Toon for King Kev.

Third time lucky for Keegan? Or maybe it’s just pie in the sky. More on this as (or maybe if) we get details.

    I dunno.

I somehow doubt Keegan is going to be too keen on coming back after the desperate attempt to blame him for everything unless he’s offered some sacrificial meat in the form of Wise.

I cant see Keegan wanting to work with Wise, so my bets is that Keegan demands he is sacked.

According to Sky Sports News, there were still unresolved issues.

I dunno — If Ashley couldn’t be bothered to stop partying in NYC to meeting with Keegan to keep him from quitting, why would he meet with him to try to bring him back? I think it’s to do with the lawsuit, and Keegan’s careful language in his resignation — Ashley’s realized there’s a case for constructive dismissal, and is trying to sweet-talk Keegan into some sort of settlement. Hopefully KK will tell him to stick it.

This fucker obviously can’t coach for shit, and if Newcastle really are stupid enough to recycle him yet again (3rd time I believe), they must really be in the shitter.
