Jamie Carragher Trivia: More Own Goals Than Goals
By: Daryl | December 14th, 2008Another own goal for poor Jamie Carragher yesterday, netting at the wrong end in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Hull.
At first glance it looks horrendous. Either like he’s just had a mad one and done it deliberately, or maybe like his boots are on backwards.
But the replay suggests Carragher was unsighted (Hyypiä in the way) and it was more a case of the ball hitting him and going in, rather then him striking the ball.
Either way, Jamie Carragher has now scored a lot of own goals against Liverpool. After his recent mishap against Spurs, one brave soul on the lfcreds.com forum wondered aloud whether Carragher had scored more goals or more own goals.
Sadly the answer seems to be: more own goals.
Carragher has now netted four times for Liverpool, and seven times against (including yesterday). Giving the Bootle born lad a grand total of minus three.
My numbers may not be perfect. The total of seven is based on the six JC OGs listed in the above lfcred.com forum post, plus the one from yesterday. And the four in the right end were shamelessly sourced from Wikipedia. But – despite Wiki getting Djimi Traoré’s goal stats slightly wrong – I’m reasonably confident of the accuracy there.
Before any Liverpool fans accuse me of blasphemy, it’s worth pointing out that this doesn’t make Carragher a bad player. Goals scored vs own goals is obviously no way to judge a centre back, and we all know Carragher is an excellent defender. Just so we’re clear on that.
However, Carragher’s OG vs Hull was his sixth in the Premier League. Meaning he now joins Richard Dunne and Frank Sinclair in joint first place for most Prem own goals. So another bit of bad luck and Jamie Carragher will be the sole holder of one very dubious record.

Well, I had seen this many times.
That’s the major concern of FA about the tremendous decline of stadium spectators and TV audiences issue.
Audience are more smart now equiped with the new technology to source for internal news about their “betting” in favour club(s).
They almost knew everything before a game start. BUT remember they are still chasing for exciting, that’s why still there an undeadly demand on EPL game.Unfortunately, all these “golden award winning” director and “actors” performaning so badly and awful in producing good “acting” (no commnet about their good football skill); it’s definately chase-out audience ’s appetite and ruin the acceptance of the game !
For instant, Liverpool have been abandoned by spectators for many years. Amongst nameless “big-earning” spectators, we are talking about their awful acting in any game instead of talking about the “return” gained from bet-on them!
“When you think they are going to win on that game with big score; they thrashed or drew with and worst still they scoreless in that game;
and when you look down on them and hoping for their rival in this game, they will win with big score !”“jamie wat wat and so so, all acting…OWN GOAL , not surprsing us !”
Actually, we are petty on them too,
“Why ? If they decline to do that, …….”
