John Terry Finally Innocent Of Something

By: The Offside | July 13th, 2012

terry-ferdinandJohn Terry: excellent defender, questionable dude. Innocent (currently), but questionable.

As an important story necessary to keep journos busy from making up too much nonsense in the summer, the Terry-Ferdinand/Terry-Ferdinand race/Three Lions battles provided ample juice. Alas, it’s over and John has been acquitted of his charges, despite using the Luis Suarez Defense.

Which didn’t really work for Luis Suarez, ironically enough.

The skinny:

In his verdict, Riddle said there was “no doubt” that Terry had “uttered the words ‘fucking black cunt’” during the final stages of the match in question at Loftus Road last autumn. He had done so in anger, he said.

But, said Riddle, it was “impossible to be sure” both of what Terry said and what Ferdinand had said to him.

He concluded: “It is therefore possible that what he [Terry] said was not intended as an insult, but rather as a challenge to what he believed had been said to him. In those circumstances, there being a doubt, the only verdict the court can record is one of not guilty.”

At some point in the very near future, clubs are going to outfit certain players with prophylactic muzzles. Terry and Suarez would be a good start.

A little late to chime in, but I did wonder what planet Terry came from where f#cking black c#nt is considered a term of endearment. Since the Saurez defense included photos of Argentine and Uruguayan footballers with banners that celebrate heroes nicknamed "negro" and "negrito", I was really curious to see what they would have Frank trot out with. (Instead we got 17, mostly white, Chelsea TEAMMATES signing an FA drafted statement saying that the cap'n wasn't racist - cartoon material if not so dangerous.
Liverpool put every foot wrong after the Suarez incident, and so did the FA. Everyone could have used it to make a positive statement, which I'm sure the players would have agreed to do in the name of the kick it out campaign. Instead it went from bad to worse. But nothing near this.
The Terry case just goes from bad to horrifying. From the drivel above, astounding really, to the idea that Ferdinand may now be charged by the FA as well!!? So much for anyone speaking up in the future. Scary times.
