Jose Mourinho Should Stay Away from the Premier League

By: Daryl | October 20th, 2008

The Special One’s announcement that he plans to return to England after seeing out his three year Inter contract seems a tad premature. Mostly because Mourinho is just seven Serie A games into his Inter career.

Maybe he’s hoping Inter will throw him the biggest goodbye party of all time, and just wants to give Massimo Moratti and friends as much time as possible to make preparations. Maybe he just misses England. Either way I don’t see it going down too well with Inter fans.

It’s got some Premier League fans interested already though, wondering if he’ll take over their team. But would a return to the Premier League really be a good idea for The Special One? I don’t think so.

Mourinho was a breath of fresh air first time around. His cool arrogance, the snappy winter coat and tie combo, the ability to deliver on his boasts with back to back Premier League titles. But a repeat of that is impossible. You can’t be a breath of fresh air twice.

And The Special One has already conquered the Premier League. There’s no reason to go back:

If Mourinho joined a rival team (like taking over at Man Utd for example) he’d ruin the tight bond he enjoys with Chelsea fans.

But on the other hand would Mourinho really want to work for Roman Abramovich at Chelsea again? Even if he did, he runs the risk of tarnishing his reputation from the first time around.

Even worse for Mourinho, Chelsea’s football under Big Phil Scolari has been putting the Special One’s team to shame. The Blues were beautiful against Boro on Saturday in a way Mourinho never matched:

My guess is that Mourinho is feeling a little homesick for England, but that a Scudetto or two and/or maybe a Champions League win with Inter will leave him feeling a lot better about life in Italy.

Not a surprise. Love it or hate it, the prem is the golden gal of the moment and mourinho loves the spotlight more than anything. he probably feels a bit out of the loop in italy.

I don't understand why this is getting so much attention. It's old news. Mourinho stated that he wanted to come back to England before he was even hired by Inter, but he wanted to spend a few years in either Spain or Italy first. I think he'll spend 2 years in Italy and then come back to take over for "Mister Alex."
