Kettering have the chance to play Man United

By: Rob | November 29th, 2009

FACuppicThe draw for the FA Cup Third Round was today, and Kettering Town (who play in the Blue Square Premier League or the fifth tear of English Football) who held Leeds United to a draw at home earlier in the day, could be rewarded, if they manage to beat Leeds at Elland Road, with a third round tie against Manchester United. Really is the stuff Cup Dreams are made of.

Imagine what that’ll be like for the Kettering players, running out at Old Trafford, against the likes of Giggs, Rooney, Owen and Carrick?

Its a fantastic story for the cup, even if Leeds win, as it reignites the rivalry between the two United’s that has fallen by the wayside this decade with Leeds fall from grace.

Plenty more besides, the rest of the cup draw is below.

Tottenham v Peterborough
Brentford v Doncaster
Middlesbrough v Man City
Stoke v York
Notts County v Forest Green
Huddersfield v West Brom
Sheff Utd v QPR
Milton Keynes Dons v Burnley
Chelsea v Watford
Nottm Forest v Birmingham
Preston v Colchester
West Ham v Arsenal
Aston Villa v Blackburn
Portsmouth v Coventry
Sunderland v Oxford Utd/Barrow
Wigan v Hull
Everton v Carlisle
Sheff Wed v Crystal Palace
Tranmere/Aldershot v Wolverhampton
Blackpool v Ipswich
Fulham v Swindon
Stockport/Torquay v Brighton
Scunthorpe v Barnsley
Southampton v Rotherham/Luton
Bristol City v Cardiff
Reading v Liverpool
Staines Town/Millwall v Derby
Plymouth v Newcastle
Leicester v Swansea
Bolton v Lincoln City
Acrington/Barnet v Gillingham
Man Utd v Kettering/Leeds

Other Non-League Vs Premier League ties, include York taking on Stoke and Barrow or Oxford taking on Sunderland.

Bristol City/Cardiff matches are always firey, while all Prem ties include West Ham and Arsenal as well as Wigan v Hull and Villa v Blackburn.

Matches are first weekend in January. Looking forward to it.

I read somewhere else that the last time Kettering played Manchester United was in 1897 when United were still called Newton Heath.

Caught this game before El Clasico and Wow.. Arsenal plays some nice football but Chelsea is effective, effective, effective. Best team in England right now.

Not sure about that, Dave. Fergie takes the FA Cup pretty seriously, unlike the CC. Either way, I know that most Utd. fans are praying to play Leeds.
