Liverpool Players use Official for Target Practice

By: Bob | December 21st, 2006

No one was especially pleased when the Carling Cup match between Liverpool and Arsenal was called off on account of fog earlier this week, but the night wasn’t a complete waste. As you can see in the video below, Liverpool’s players got in some much needed shooting target practice, displaying an accuracy that hasn’t been seen for much of the season.

how can anyone in their right mind not see this as funny, The ref who has clearly made a huge mistake due to the visibility and the fixture congestion deserves this. At least play the match rather than go on tv and make a fool out of yourself for the whole world to see. I mean if they had simply played a 10 minute match the ref would not be made a fool of:
    1) The TV would not need to show him as his interview time would be replaced by the match in progress and highlights of poor visibility.
    2) The Liverpool players would return to the locker room and be unable to train due to the crowd's presence.

    DISGRACEFUL

Also, I'd like to point out to the honorable gentleman who posted this video that I wholly resent the remark about Liverpool not showing an accuracy this season like that seen in the video.

I'll leave it at that for now, as Gerrard arguing with Riise after the third goal at Emirates got through is still a bit fresh in my memory. (Adopting Dean Wormer tone) You'll get yours!

Personally, I consider the fact that at no time during that clip does a ball strike the referee in the back of the head to be a tremendous disappointment. The title of the post suggests something much more fantastic would happen.

The referee deserved such an embarassment. Just play the thing. It would have been fun, and surely The Kop would have created some kind of song to celebrate when the action at far end escaped their view.

Instead, it's Arsenal at Anfield on Jan. 6 and Jan. 9. Reckon the Gunner just spend the half-week in Liverpool?

They were just having a bit of fun. No need to fine everything that moves. Lighten up.

I would like to commend both the reporter and the referee for their poise and dignity.

They didn't seem flustered at all.

ummm... shouldn't there be a massive fine? The NFL would have levied enough to pay for an entire hospital in the Congo by now.

I'm one for a good laugh and pointed jab every now and then, but, actually, I don't find it a "humorous" protest at all.

Should a ball be accidentally hit into the reporter and referee, that's one thing.

For the Liverpool players to purposefully shoot at them is completely different, I don't care how well they could see through the fog.
