Louis Saha Uses Leeches to Heal His Knees
By: Daryl | September 3rd, 2010Everton striker Louis Saha is not a man blessed with good knees. In fact I’d go as far as saying he’s a top class striker cursed with horrible knees, and as a result has never been able to hit the heights his talents deserve. He’s the French Ledley King.
After years of knee injuries and surgeries, the 32 year old striker’s knees tend to hurt and swell. Good news is that he’s found some relief in the form of some very old fashioned medicine: Leeches.
He told The Sun: “I went to visit my grandparents in Guadeloupe and I put leeches on my swollen knees. Since then I’ve had a knee that is not quite right but given what happened to my ligaments I have to accept it. It swells up less and I feel fine now.”
You might laugh at the idea of Saha turning back the centuries, medially speking. But there was a reason leeches were so popular with doctors back in the day. When leeches suck out the blood it acts as an anti-inflammatory, like an extreme (and ugly) version of taking 800mg of ibuprofen or putting your leg up on a chair.
Saha is set to play for France against Estonia Belarus today as Euro qualifying begins, so here’s hoping new coach Laurent Blanc is impressed enough with Saha’s leech treatment that he uses them to solve Franck Ribery’s prostitute problem too.
